“Thirteen Sided Dice is inspired by the mystery of God, the indecipherable enigma of luck, fate, will, and the sacred immanence of the ordinary. It echoes something that has been increasingly important this year – moments of contemplative prayer and meditation.” — Cole Pulice
“Thirteen Sided Dice” is the first new music by Cole Pulice since Land’s End Eternal, one of our favorite albums of 2025.
The first release through Residence—a Sydney-based project featuring two artists and documenting their creative process throughout the year—“Thirteen Sided Dice” is an aimless 25-minute ambient meditation. Beginning with gentle and resonant solo electric guitar, the piece gradually becomes enveloped by a wash of spacious drone, followed by (several minutes into the piece) sampled sounds of the Oakland artist opening their saxophone case and starting to play.
These motifs of the drone, the strummed guitar, the sounds of real world objects clattering, and the all-encompassing saxophone shapeshift throughout the piece, lending it a simultaneously grounded and ethereal quality. An experiment in change.
