“It was my dream in high school to move to the Bay Area and pursue music further. Many of my favorite artists hailed from SF and so it just felt like it was where I should go if I want to surround myself with what I love.”
We lost another great one to LA. As it turns out, last week’s Slangiversary (6 Year Slang Church Anniversary) show at Bandcamp HQ in downtown Oakland was the final performance for Kevin Nichols and his band as a Bay Area-based group, according to the artist’s recent Instagram post. As a parting gift, Nichols released Disappointest (Demos, Outtakes, & Oddities 2015-2019) as a pay-what-you-want exclusive on Bandcamp. The 21-track collection features work from the era of Disappointer, rough and tumble don’t-give-a-damn grungy sludgy punk rock fantastic for blasting as you cruise around Oakland—or maybe for your six-hour roadtrip south.
