Providing the energy we need at a time like this, Juanny Depp dropped his new EP Yerbz just in time for summer. We’re big fans of his clubbed out dembow and reggaeton, and he dedicates this album to all of his caffeine addicts and fans of voyeuristic skate movies from the 90s (there’s a song entitled “Sevigny”). In his own words, “when u want to give up, YERBZ keeps u going.” These tracks could keep you up all night.
And if you were paying attention this week, you may have grabbed the very limited and now very sold out tickets to the Club Waziema fundraiser tonight. Juanny is djing with Chaz Bear (you might know him as Toro y Moi) and friends. If you missed out, the whole affair will be broadcast live through Lower Grand Radio. Club Waziema is a historical landmark bar originally opened in the late 1940s to early 1950s as Club Morocco. It was a bustling jazz club, hosting performances by Billie Holiday, John Coltrane, Tina Turner, James Brown and Marvin Gaye, just to name a few. The benefit show is to support this historical landmark and raise money to help fix up the space so it can continue to be a place for performers, creatives, and the whole community.
