Soft Spot by the California Honeydrops

If you need a break from a hard day, you would do worse than put on the latest California Honeydrops record Soft Spot. This record feels like finding an old school R&B station on the car radio and cruising around the Bay on a Sunday afternoon. From Southern soul to delta blues to Bay Area R&B, there’s something to put a smile on anyone’s face. You wouldn’t guess that frontman, vocalist, and multi-instrumentalist Lech Wierzynski was born in Poland based on his singing style, which emulates the great R&b singers of the past: Sam Cooke, Ray Charles, etc. And you wouldn’t guess that this and started out busking in an Oakland BART station based on the incredible quality of their musicianship and recording skills. And this band absolutely whips up a good time live, so catch them if you can. They’re currently on a nationwide tour, but hopefully they’ll play a welcome back show before too long.
