Not quite as threatening as its cover’s bloody watercolors suggest, Bloodlust by MOP is the latest EP recorded and released by Oakland’s Smoking Room, featuring six short songs of twee-meets-grunge. The duo of Moira Brown and Samuelito Cruz layer a quartet’s worth of instruments, stacking guitar, bass, and drums into a fluid stream of hazy, fuzzy thrum, with Brown’s sweet voice cutting through it all.
