Written during the pandemic and her first year of motherhood, Suzanimal’s new record Passing is a funky, psychedelic synth pop dance party, meant for ecstatic outdoor dancing. The lead single “Do” builds a particularly satisfying groove, while her sultry vocals hover menacingly above the mix. Suzanne Galal—a scientist and pharmacy professor by day—picked up a bass guitar for the first time at the age of 30, but exudes sparkling confidence and solid songwriting chops.
