If San Francisco has a sound, Family Not A Group have captured it. A seventeen-member artist collective, FNG variously hail from the Bayview, Mission, Tenderloin, and greater Bay Area. With their debut LP Family Not A Album, the collective finds the perfect midway point between 2000s hyphy and 90s Hieroglyphics for the 2020s.
Lyrically Bay to its bones, the record weaves together “IYKYK” references to “how we chill,” staying Sucka Free, and smoke shop tees. Taken together, the collection of tracks sound like a slow drive on a warm day, and the sounds of the city wafting through rolled down windows.
