“what are you doing new years eve?” by Mae Powell

What are you doing New Year’s Eve? One of the most dreaded holiday questions, conjuring up a crazy medley of excitement, expectation, nostalgia, desire, and longing. Apparently it’s been doing that ever since 1947, when Frank Loesser composed “What Are You Doing New Year’s Eve?”, which has since been performed by everyone from Ella Fitzgerald and Bill Evans to Norah Jones and Kacey Musgraves. Add Mae Powell and her crew to that list, as the alt folk artist presents us with one of the last Bay Area singles of 2022. Slow gentle jazz guitar glides by while Mae croons that timeless love and longing.

Get tickets to see Mae Powell perform with KING PARI, Nowandformerly, and Peña at Rickshaw Stop on Wednesday, January 11.
