In case you missed it, San Francisco rapper and Bay Area hip hop historian Dregs One dropped “Rap Cats” earlier this year with Spice 1. Old school beats back up their legendary origin stories, letting the next generation know this is where their scene came from. We’ve talked about Dregs One in the past, but if you didn’t know the name Spice 1 before, you need to know that he was discovered at age 16 by Too $hort, and soon had a successful multi-gold-record run with Jive Records. He’s still putting out records, but check out Spice 1’s first big hit “187 Proof” (which apparently came to him in a dream) once you’ve finished binging “Rap Cats.” And don’t forget to check out Dregs One’s Instagram for his ongoing series on Bay Area slang, rap, graffiti, and culture.
